Liberals keep saying that Republicans don’t have a plan, but that is a lie!

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Liberals keep saying that Republicans don’t have a plan, but there is a plan! Republicans want to allow for interstate competition among health insurance companies. Current laws protect insurance companies from outside of state competition and that has lead to higher premiums and health care that falls below its full potential.

Also, Republicans want to get rid of regulation that in some states force insurance companies to pay for abortion, sex changes and fly by night diet plans. Get rid of these radical ideas and allow insurance companies to provide coverage for only the basics, to start off with, and the free market, through competition, will take care of the rest. If a health insurance company wants to stay competitive, they will, eventually, pay for the less necessary procedures or programs. But they must be allowed to do it on their own, when they see it to be profitable, otherwise, we will continue to see premiums go up.

Republicans, also, want individuals to pay only for what is really necessary in health coverage; such as, paying into a plan that only includes coverage for the more important things, like treatments for cancer, for example. Forcing individuals, or companies, to pay into a plan that covers just about everything is unnecessary and expensive. Would you buy full coverage for a car that is forty years old and has about a million miles? Of course not! It wouldn’t make sense too. While aging people may need more coverage, young people usually don’t. For most young people, it would not make sense to pay for full coverage. And forcing them to would only cause many of them to find ways to self exclude themselves from any coverage which can also cause the taxpayer money since people without coverage usually seek the Emergency Room. So, it is important to give consumers a choice. Let the American people decide how much coverage they want to pay for; this is supposed to be a free country, after all.

A huge benefit of keeping health insurance in the realm of the free market is that it will not cost the American tax payer a cent. In contrast, the current administrations plan will end up costing the American tax payer trillions of dollars. Part of the reason it will be so expensive is because the Democrats want to force insurance companies to pay for preexisting conditions. Insurance companies exist to make money, they gamble on the possibility that you will never lose that which you buy their insurance coverage for; they make their money when you pay your insurance premium. If you suffer a loss for the covered item, they have to pay and in the process they lose that money. So, does it make sense for an insurance company offering flood insurance, for example, to cover a home that has preexisting damage due to a flood. NO! They would only lose money. When they do lose money, they remedy that problem by raising premiums to make up for the losses.

But, the free market has something to remedy the problem of preexisting conditions. It’s called charity! I consider it unethical, and not to mention Un-American, to be forced to pay for the preexisting conditions of someone I don’t know, and don’t care for. Let me decide when I want to be compassionate. And, in the process the American tax payer makes a percentage of what I give to a charitable organization. And, I also get to claim the act of charity on my taxes. It’s a win, win, situation for everyone!

Even though it passed in the House, kill it piece by piece in the Senate through the amendment process and then in the courts! Let’s keep our health insurance free from government intervention! Contact your representative and continue the pressure!

“2010 will be our year to focus on growth and innovation” –Matt Fleischmann

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

After becoming a member of the Los Angeles County Young Republicans in 2009 I felt at home. True belief in limited government, open communication, and dedication are rare traits in political clubs today. Not only does the LACYR have these traits, but the club is filled with amazing people who care for one another like family. This family is tough and remains true to the values of its members. After being active for a few months I was appointed as the Social Director. As Social Director I hosted several events and was part of a focused board that accomplished timely and specific goals. I am impressed with all that the LACYR has accomplished in its first year and I see a 2010 as a year for growth and innovation. I am privileged to be a part of this family and will work as hard as I can to improve it as President.

LA County Young Republicans Board Elections

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

February 2010

Hello LACYR!

We are so excited to be celebrating our one year anniversary this Spring! I am pleased to have seen our original group of six persons that met in downtown Long Beach grow to current membership over 50 strong, now meeting in downtown Los Angeles. It has been an honor to serve as the first President of this club. Through the tireless efforts of my amazing board, we have only seen continued growth since our kick off in Spring 2009. I am especially grateful for our Vice President Derek Easley for serving as acting President and carrying the weight of the club in my absence over the summer. His leadership took the club from a small Long Beach City based group to the largest Young Republican club in the county. We will continue to grow in strength and numbers with our plans already in the works for 2010.

According to our bylaws, we need to have an election every six months. We invite all members to participate and run for office this month. While executive positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Chair are limited to those whom have already served three months on the board, all other board positions are open to any current member of LACYR.

Executive LACYR Board positions are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer,

Other Board Positions are: Communications Director, Membership Director, Social Director, Media Director, Legislative Director

We will be holding elections on Tuesday, February 16th at 8:30 PM, 320 N. Pine Ave. Ste #404 Long Beach, CA 90808. If you cannot attend in person but would like to vote/participate via online or by phone, please let our Communications director know at: angelique@lacyr.org

It has been an absolute pleasure to serve as one of the founding members of the only countywide Young Republican group in LA. While I will not be running for re-election, I will remain an active member and participant in the club and in the Young Republican cause to call for fiscal responsibilty, strong national security and promote conservative values for all Angelinos and all Americans. God Bless America! Go GOP!

kind regards,

Catherine Casady

Brown’s Win in the State of Massachusetts Will Provide Real “Change” the Country Needs!

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

The Democrats were confident that the people of Massachusetts, after voting in a Democrat, Ted Kennedy, for 47 years as their governor, would continue to vote for Democratic candidates. One Democratic candidate going as far as to say, “There is no way in hell we’re going to elect a Republican to Ted Kennedy’s seat. Period.”

At one point during the election, it did appear that that was going to be the case. After all, over 80 percent of voters in Massachusetts are registered Democrats and  Republican state Senator Scott Brown did trail State Attorney General, Martha Coakley, by 30 points in the polls.

On Tuesday, January 19, 2010, Brown defeated Coakley by 5 points. This was an incredible come from behind win for Republicans, not only in the State of Massachusetts, but for Republicans throughout the country. Brown’s win in a state that has been historically “Blue” sent a clear message to the president and the Democrats in congress: the American people rejected Obamacare!

Despite Obama’s efforts to seat Coakley, the Democrats lost Massachusetts. Last year, they lost New Jersey and Virginia, seats previously held by Democrats, to Republicans.  The stats were stacked against the Republicans. Massachusetts had not elected a Republican senator since 1972. Its House delegation is wall-to-wall Democrats. Registered Democrats in Massachusetts outnumber registered Republicans by more than 3 to 1.

So how did Brown win? Obama’s health care plan is unpopular amongst most Americans, including in Massachusetts where Brown campaigned against it and promised to stop it. Obamacare threatened to force everyone to carry health insurance. It would force insurance companies to accept those with pre-existing conditions. It would tax employers for not providing health insurance and individuals for not having it. It would exempt union members from a tax on their employer-provided plans but force nonunion members with similar plans to pay it. According to Obama, his health care plan won’t raise the deficit and eventually save money, but the legislation ignores the fact that most Americans have and like their current health insurance.

The Democrats were wrong in believing that the American people really wanted to tax “the rich,” “spread the wealth,” and to punish success. They passed the “stimulus” bill to prevent unemployment from reaching 8 percent, but unfortunately, it has grown to 10 percent. Brown criticized Obama’s stimulus plan and called for tax cuts which historically have been successful in creating jobs and stimulating the economy, a fact the Obama administration chose to ignore in the rush to create a socialist utopia.

The Obama administration has bailed out insurance companies, car companies, banks and Wall Street. While companies continued to make huge profits and give themselves big fat bonuses the American tax payer on main street continues to struggle to pay for the bare essentials in life. With Brown’s win gone are “cap and trade” and a second ‘’stimulus package,” as well as an attempt at “immigration reform.”

Of course Massachusetts voters are rejecting Obama’s health care plan, after all, they have their own version of it already in place: RomneyCare! And, only 26 percent of Massachusetts voters think RomneyCare its effective? The fact is, the socialist health care plan has cost the Massachusetts tax payer more money than it saves and they are tired of it! Obviously, the Massachusetts voter thinks “It’s time for change!” Thus, Scott Brown won!

And, on that note, it does not look good for the Democratic Party as a whole. Nationwide, many Democratic candidates have called it quits and dropped out of races before the election ever took place. Six Democratic representatives have announced retirements. Two senators have said they are leaving just in the past weeks – North Dakota Senator Byron Dorgan and Chris Dodd.

And, it gets worse for the Dems! According to polls, conducted and paid for by the Democrats themselves, Democrats could lose up to 50 seats in the House. This will be enough for the Republican Party to take control of that half of Congress again. As for the Democrats that will still be standing, it’s very likely that they will exercise self preservation for fear of also losing their jobs. Translation: they will vote against Obamacare and any other socialist legislation to keep from becoming one of the 10 percent, or so, Americans that are unemployed.

Brown’s win in Massachusetts is great, but like the old saying suggests, “It’s not over until the fat lady sings!” Here in California, Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer, is up for reelection and it will be equally important that we pull a “Brown” in the state of California. The state is currently “Blue” and carries a serious deficit, but “left” swinging politicians continue to push their costly “green” and socialist agendas. We at the LACYR (Los Angeles County Young Republicans), will be working hard to support Republican candidates, but we need your support. Join our organization to help us make the change needed to improve our state (California) or if your time is limited, please donate to help make California a “Red” state again.
