“2010 will be our year to focus on growth and innovation” –Matt Fleischmann

March 4th, 2010

After becoming a member of the Los Angeles County Young Republicans in 2009 I felt at home. True belief in limited government, open communication, and dedication are rare traits in political clubs today. Not only does the LACYR have these traits, but the club is filled with amazing people who care for one another like family. This family is tough and remains true to the values of its members. After being active for a few months I was appointed as the Social Director. As Social Director I hosted several events and was part of a focused board that accomplished timely and specific goals. I am impressed with all that the LACYR has accomplished in its first year and I see a 2010 as a year for growth and innovation. I am privileged to be a part of this family and will work as hard as I can to improve it as President.

LA County Young Republicans Board Elections

February 4th, 2010

February 2010

Hello LACYR!

We are so excited to be celebrating our one year anniversary this Spring! I am pleased to have seen our original group of six persons that met in downtown Long Beach grow to current membership over 50 strong, now meeting in downtown Los Angeles. It has been an honor to serve as the first President of this club. Through the tireless efforts of my amazing board, we have only seen continued growth since our kick off in Spring 2009. I am especially grateful for our Vice President Derek Easley for serving as acting President and carrying the weight of the club in my absence over the summer. His leadership took the club from a small Long Beach City based group to the largest Young Republican club in the county. We will continue to grow in strength and numbers with our plans already in the works for 2010.

According to our bylaws, we need to have an election every six months. We invite all members to participate and run for office this month. While executive positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Chair are limited to those whom have already served three months on the board, all other board positions are open to any current member of LACYR.

Executive LACYR Board positions are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer,

Other Board Positions are: Communications Director, Membership Director, Social Director, Media Director, Legislative Director

We will be holding elections on Tuesday, February 16th at 8:30 PM, 320 N. Pine Ave. Ste #404 Long Beach, CA 90808. If you cannot attend in person but would like to vote/participate via online or by phone, please let our Communications director know at: angelique@lacyr.org

It has been an absolute pleasure to serve as one of the founding members of the only countywide Young Republican group in LA. While I will not be running for re-election, I will remain an active member and participant in the club and in the Young Republican cause to call for fiscal responsibilty, strong national security and promote conservative values for all Angelinos and all Americans. God Bless America! Go GOP!

kind regards,

Catherine Casady

January General Meeting with the Tea Party!

February 1st, 2010

Thanks to all that attended the meeting last Thursday the 31st of January. Despite the fact that promotion for this event was late going out, we had 24 attendees that night making this the most successful meeting since our September 2009 meeting in Redondo Beach where we had over 35 people in attendants. We attribute that success to the fact that our activities have increased over the months and people are noticing. In fact, every new face we spoke to last night had told us that the primary reason they had gotten interested in our club was because of the activity they saw on our www.lacyr.org website. They all said the same thing, “The website looks great!”

In the past year, there was some controversy in the Young Republican world regarding our club’s charter with the California Young Republicans. It was nice to see both sides of that battle join us and contribute to our meeting last night. It was a productive meeting.

The location where we held the meeting was a new one for us; It was a wonderful venue for future meetings. It had a gorgeous view of the city (since it was up in the 54th floor of the Wells Fargo Building); it had a bar on the same floor and the meeting room was very elegant. The meeting room was also private and very quiet; it was perfect for question and answer sessions with a speaker.

Ashley Ingram, a Tea Party organizer, and Nathan Mintz, also a Tea Party organizer and candidate for CA Assembly, 53rd, gave us a lot of valuable information regarding the Tea Party movement and how to continue growing our membership. They also explained how big government has proven detrimental to the growth of our economy and will again do damage to our lively hood unless we band together to stop the Democrats and the Obama administration’s plans to play a more dominant role in our lives. More on this issue in future blogs.
